Using the Casper Self Service application on OS X Computers
The University of Minnesota Office of Information Technology’s Macintosh Support Self Service application is leveraged on the Casper Suite of OS X and iOS management software, developed by and licensed from JAMF Software.
This document assumes your Macintosh has already been enrolled into the Macintosh Support service. For more information on enrolling your Mac, please refer to KB0020302
PLEASE NOTE: The Self Service app is state-aware, meaning it will only display software titles or other utilities that have not already been installed on your computer.
On Mac OS X 10.8 through 10.9, look for Self-Service in the Applications folder and double-click.
In OS X 10.10 and up, a Spotlight search (as indicated by the red arrow in the illustration below) can find Self Service faster.
After the Self Service app launches, input your U of MN Internet ID and password.
Once logged in, Self Service will display Featured apps in the main central column by default. Click on the items under the Categories heading in the column on the right to navigate to the apps you wish to install. The displayed categories in the illustrations below are indicated by red arrows.
Once you have found the apps you wish to install, click the “i” button (indicated by the blue arrow) located next to the app icon for further information, or the “Install” button (indicated by the red arrow) to install the app.
After clicking “Install,” installation is quick and transparent.
The left-hand column contains useful URLs for quick reference, displaying by default in Self Service, which is a simplified web browser. Clicking on the MyU link opens up the standard U of MN Sign In page as expected.
