UM Analytics: Upgrade Information
The University is upgrading UM Analytics on September 17, 2016. The new version (aka "12c") brings a new look and feel to the tool, but navigation and functionality remain largely unchanged from the current version (aka "11g").
This article includes:
- Login Information
- User Interface Changes
- Graph Changes
- Improved Analyses Interactions
- Useful Information
- Reports with Prompts
- Additional Information
After the upgrade, you can access UM Analytics from Reporting Center in MyU.
For the most part, menus and navigation remain consistent between versions. The main difference is in the color palette and icons.
note: these screenshots were taken using a pre-production version of the new environment. The production release will have UMN branding, and some of the tools on the home page will not be included.

In Views and Dashboards, the [xyz] icon appears next to the edit pencil. The [xyz] button will open the view properties where you can change the display and behavior of the view. In the previous version, you needed to click the edit button (the pencil) first.
(View options for 11g on the left, view options for 12c on the right. Note that the [xyz] button now appears on the view.)
Moving Analyses and Dashboards between environments
If you have created analyses or dashboards in the previous environment, you can easily migrate them to the new environment.
Automatically Prompt Users for Parameters when Dashboards Open
In 11g, when a dashboard was opened, the embedded analyses would automatically run. You could control this by either having a filter that resulted in little or no data so the results would appear quickly.
In 12c, you can now set the dashboard to prompt the user for parameters when the dashboard opens.
There are some changes of behavior with reports that are using prompts.
Prompts with [All] selected as the default
If you have a prompt that has All selected as the default, and you want to choose fewer items, when you open the search window, all of the values will be selected (and they will all be listed, or the phrase "All Column Values" will be displayed).
Move all of the items from the Selected area back to the value area (using the [<< Remove All] button.
Reports with prompts that have multiple pages
If your report has multiple pages, and there are prompts, sometimes the prompts won't be applied when selecting a new page. If you do not see any data displayed after switching pages, click the [Apply] button in the prompts area.
