More than 50 external tools have been requested, vetted, and integrated with Canvas. Learn more about how you can find and add existing tools to your Canvas course site.
Instructor Notifications in Canvas
As an instructor, you know how important it is for students to receive the information you send them about your course. Here’s how you can help students set course notifications in Canvas. Yet, just as important, you need to set your notifications as well. Do you want to be notified when students turn in late work? Or be notified when your students are trying to access a broken link? Setting your instructor Canvas notifications can make these notifications automatic. Instructors and students using a Canvas mobile app can benefit from the power and flexibility offered by push notifications. Learn how to set up Canvas push notifications.

New Tool: Use FeedbackFruits Tools for Collaborative Learning
FeedbackFruits, an external tool designed to support peer learning, was recently integrated in Canvas. We are currently in a soft launch implementation of this tool, which is a great time to learn and experiment before using it in a real course. To help instructors with this exploration, ATSS is offering four hands-on sessions that will take a deeper dive into each of the four tools integrated in the UMN system. Sessions will cover the tool’s functionality, how to set it up in a Canvas course site, and allowing participants to experience the tool from the student and instructor perspectives.

Spotlight
Are you considering creating video content for your course? Media specialists are available to work with faculty and instructional staff to produce videos for courses or other academic projects. These can include: lectures, interviews, and on-location demonstrations.
Are you concerned about the process? Will it be worth it? Here is what other faculty had to say about their experience working with Academic Video Production:
- “This was my first time doing a lecture series. I didn’t know what to expect but I was thrilled with what I was able to do. I owe it to the tremendous support, exceptional help, and patience provided by ATSS. I am so grateful. I had no clue what I was getting into. I came to fully appreciate the type of work they do here.”
— Ramon Fonkoue, Associate Professor of French and Francophone Literatures & Film (CLA) - “I loved how the ATSS team edited seamlessly between me using PowerPoint, Matlab, and Gopher Glass. My students unanimously enjoyed the videos and found them a tremendous help in my classes.”
— Victor Barocas, Professor, BioMedical Engineering - “I have been working with ATSS for four years. They have been great and easy to work with. You come prepared to record and ATSS does a great job of finishing up your recording, producing it, and getting it back to you.”
