The University of Minnesota Office of Information Technology supports many technologies that you will encounter throughout the semester, such as MyU, Canvas, eduroam, and UMN-TV.

Where can I view my class schedule?

You can view your class schedule on MyU

To view your class schedule:

  1. Log into myu.umn.edu.

  2. Click on the Academics tab.

  3. Under the My Classes heading, there is a weekly view of your classes and the times they meet.

    • If you do not see your classes listed, you may need to click on the left and right arrows to navigate to a week that you have classes scheduled.

How do I make a tuition payment?

There are several different ways you can pay for your tuition, including eCheck, credit or debit card transfer, international wire transfer, and more. Paying online is the fastest way to make a payment.

Detailed instructions on how to make a payment towards your University tuition can be found on the One Stop Student Services website.

How do I set up my University email on my phone or email applications (like Outlook or Apple Mail)?

Review the settings to configure an email client at Google Apps: General Email Client Settings.

How do I connect my smart tv or gaming console to the internet?

Visit the Housing and Residence Life website for more information about accessing the internet at the University of Minnesota.

Which WiFi network should I use?

As a student or staff/faculty member, you have access the eduroam WiFi network. This is the best WiFi network to use, as it has the fastest speeds and largest bandwidth.

You can sign into this network using your full University of Minnesota email address and password. Refer to How to Connect to eduroam for instructions on how to access the eduroam WiFi network.

I am having trouble connecting to the WiFi network on my device. What should I do? 

  1. Restart your device.

  2. Forget the network and reconnect.

  3. Double check to see if you are entering the correct login information.

    • Username: Your full University of Minnesota email address (ex: [email protected]).

    • Password: Your University of Minnesota account password (the same password for access to MyU, Gmail, etc.

  4. If these steps have not resolved your connection issues, try the additional troubleshooting steps listed in WiFi: Troubleshoot Your Connection.

If you are still unable to connect your device to the WiFi, bring your device into a Technology Help walk-in location.

What is Canvas? How do I access it?

Canvas is the University's online learning platform. You can access Canvas at canvas.umn.edu. For more information about Canvas, visit the Canvas overview.

You can find Canvas courses that you are enrolled in as a student on your Canvas Dashboard.

If you do not see a course on your Canvas Dashboard:

  1. Check under the Courses tab.

  2. Select All Courses to display a list of all the Canvas courses you are enrolled in.

  3. If you still do not see the course listed, check with your course instructor; your instructor may not have published the Canvas course site yet. 

I heard I can download Microsoft Office 365. Where can I get it?

Students and staff members at the University of Minnesota have access to an Office 365 subscription. This subscription will not expire until you leave the University.

I'm a student. How can I set up parent/guest access so I can grant another person access to do things like pay bills, view my schedule, or see my unofficial transcript?

You can find instructions on how to grant access to a parent/guest on the One Stop Student Services website.

I'm a parent or guest. How can I do things like help my student pay their bill, view their schedule, or see their grades?

Your student can grant you parent/guest access to their account. You will receive the invitation to access your student's information via email. 

You can accept your parent/guest invitation with an existing University of Minnesota account or register for a new University of Minnesota proxy account to access your student's shared information. 

To prevent login errors and other problems that may arise from creating a duplicate account, please register using any existing University account that you may have (with the noted exception of the following types of accounts: friend (sponsored) accounts, guest accounts, and some Alumni Association accounts).

Contact Technology Help if you need help locating your University account or determining if it can be used for parent/guest access. 

I forgot my Internet ID and/or password. What do I do?

If you set up your self-service password change secrets and/or have access to your alternate email on file, you can click on the Forgot your Password? link and follow the instructions to recover your internet ID and/or password. Refer to Change or Reset Your UMN Password for more information.

If you have not set up self-service recovery options, contact Technology Help for further assistance. 

I want to reset my password without having to call Technology Help. How do I set up password recovery options?

To make sure that you can reset your password via self-service, set your Internet ID password reset questions or set up an alternate email address for your account.

How do I set up cable on my TV in the residence halls?

Visit the Television page on the ResNet site for information about how to set up cable UMN-TV.

How do I access UMN-TV online?

Visit the UMN-TV on the Housing & Residential Life website to watch UMN-TV online and view the channel guide.

How do I use the hospitality WiFi unit in my residence hall room?

Aruba 303H access points are available in residence halls across the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. The access points provide WiFi and Ethernet access within a particular room.

I need help with my computer, tablet, or mobile device. How can I connect with IT?

We offer Technology Help walk-in locations around campus to help resolve various technical problems. Whether you need help connecting to campus WiFi, setting up Duo Security multi-factor authentication on a new device, or connecting to a campus printer, we're happy to help.
