Webex Teams: Install

This article details how to install the Clearspan Webex Teams (formerly Webex Engage) application. Webex Teams is the application used for accessing the Voice Over IP (VOIP) softphone system. Webex Teams accounts can be requested at http://z.umn.edu/datavoicerequest

Installing on Mac

  1. Navigate to Self Service .
  2. Search for "webex" and find the Clearspan Webex Teams application.
    Self Service application, with "webex" typed in the search bar. The Clearspan Webex Engage application is returned as a result.
  3. Click Install
  4. Wait for the installation to complete, then you can Sign In.
    • Note: Wait for OIT to create an account for you before signing in. Do not create a free Cisco Webex account 

Installing on Windows 

Note: We recommend your windows computer have 16GB RAM to work without issue.  

  1. Navigate to Software Center .
  2. Search for Clearspan Webex Teams application.
    Software Center application. In the Applications tab. Clearspan Webex Engage application is selected.
  3.  Click Install.
    Clearspan Webex Engage application is selected in the Software Center with the Install button highlighted.
  4. Wait for the installation to complete, then you can Sign In.
    • Note: Wait for OIT to create an account for you before signing in. Do not create a free Cisco Webex account.

Troubleshooting Known Errors

"The document "Webex.dmg" could not be opened. Zoom.us cannot open files in the "Disk Image" format."

  • This error occurs on a Mac when the device is attempting to use Zoom to open the file. 
  • Solution: Open the file with DiskImageMounter.
    Example of the Downloads folder showing the steps that are detailed below the image.
    1. Go to Downloads.
    2. Right click the Webex.dmg file.
    3.  Select Open With.
    4. Choose the option DiskImageMounter.
