Retrieve stored passwords from your Internet browser

Internet browsers have the ability to save passwords. These are typically kept in a non-encrypted, plain text format.  It is strongly recommended that you do not use your browser's password saving feature as it is not a secure password manager.

Google Chrome

  1. Go to the Chrome menu button  (top right) and select Settings.

  2. Under the Autofill section, select Passwords. In this menu, you can see all your saved passwords.
    • To view a password, click on the show password button (eyeball image). You will need to enter your computer password.
    • To remove a saved password, click on the 3-dot menu and choose Remove.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Select the Firefox menu in the upper right corner.

  2. Click Logins and Passwords.
  3. Search or scroll to find the login info you wish to see/change.
    • To view a password, click on the eyeball image. 
    • To remove a saved password, click on the Remove button.

Safari

  1. Click the Safari menu button in the top left of the screen (next to the Apple logo).
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Choose the Passwords tab.
  4. You will be prompted to enter your computer password to see the list of saved passwords.
    • To view a password, click on it in the list. 
    • To remove a password, choose it from the list of passwords and select the remove button in the bottom right corner.

Microsoft Edge

  1. In the Start Menu search for and open the Control Panel application.
  2. Select User Accounts in the top right corner of the menu. 
  3. The second section listed will be titled Credential Manager, in this section select the Manage Web Credentials link. 
  4. Search or scroll to find the login info you wish to see/change. 
    • To view a password, click the arrow next to the website you want, then click Show next to the Password line. 
    • To remove a password, click the arrow next to the website you want, then click Remove at the bottom.

Internet Explorer

  1. From the Internet Explorer app, select Tools (the gear icon)
  2. Open Internet Options, and then navigate to the Content tab. 
  3. Look for the AutoComplete section and select Settings. 
  4. In the new box that appears choose Manage Passwords. 
  5. Search or scroll to find the login info you wish to see/change. 
    • To view a password, click the arrow next to the website you want, then click Show next to the Password line. 
    • To remove a password, click the arrow next to the website you want, then click Remove at the bottom.
