Printing: Connect to a Networked Printer

You can install a networked printer on a University-owned Windows 10 computer, if the printer is available on a print server.

  • This article is for users of HST-supported computers, but can serve as a guide for users in other groups.

  • Note for Boynton Health users: if you use a desktop PC to connect to a terminal server session (e.g. TSBH-Prod), follow these directions on your desktop computer first, then log into the terminal server and repeat the process. After this initial installation, the terminal server session will pick up the settings from the desktop PC when you log in.

  1. Click the magnifying glass or the Start menu icon at the bottom left of your screen.

  2. Type \\ahcprint1 (or the name of your group's print server).
Windows search box, with \\ahcprint1 entered. "\\ahcprint1, Run command" is listed under Best match and selected.

  3. Press Enter. A window containing a list of printers opens.
File explorer window titled "\\ahcprint1", containing icons with names of printers.

  4. Double-click the printer you want to add.

  • Printers on \\ahcprint1 are named in the format Building-Floor-Room-Color/BW-Model.

  • If the printer is not listed, contact the service desk to have it installed or added to the server.

  • If a pop-up prompts you to enter an administrator account, you do not have access to the selected printer. Contact the service desk.

  1. A window opens to show the installation progress.
Windows Printer Installation Box; "Connecting to [printer name] on ahcprint1". Progress bar, "Looking for a driver". Cancel button selected.

  2. When the driver installation finishes, the printer's queue window opens.

  3. Set the printer as default (required for Boynton staff using the PNC EHR, otherwise optional).

    1. Open the Printer menu at the top left of the queue window.

    2. Select Set As Default Printer.

    3. A dialog box prompts you to confirm that Windows will not manage your default printer.
Printers dialogue box. "Setting this printer as default means Windows will stop managing your default printer. OK | Cancel. Cancel is selected.

    4. Click OK. The box closes.

  4. Close the printer queue window.

  5. You are now able to print.

  • If you did not set the printer as default, you can select it from your list of installed printers.

  • The printer's name will match what you selected in step 4.
