Moodle 3.2: Provide Instructor Feedback Files to Student Assignments

Applies to: Moodle 3.2.

Instructors can upload feedback files to provide more comprehensive feedback of student assignment submissions. When this option is selected in the assignment settings, the assignment will have a Feedback files upload box where the instructor can drag-and-drop or upload feedback files. There are three common types of feedback files that are uploaded to the feedback files box:

  • A file made by the grader outside of Moodle. Most often the grader would use a text program to track the notes/comments regarding the student submission. Then upload that file to an individual student assignment area.
  • The student submissions downloaded by the grader. Then comments or markups added to the submission (downloaded as a copy). Then uploaded to the feedback files box. Moodle can download ALL submissions for an assignment as a single, compressed folder.
  • The Detailed View used to grade assignments one at a time can open the submission directly in Moodle (as a pdf file). The grader then uses the built-in (pdf) annotation tools to markup and comment in the replicated file. When saved, the commented (pdf) file is saved in the feedback comments area.

See the Additional Resources list below for details.

Setting the Feedback files option

The Feedback files option is turned on by default in newly created Assignments, but can be turned off. If you do not see an option for Feedback files, you can turn them on at any time.

  3. In the Administration block under Assignment administration, click Edit settings.
