Moodle 3.2: Grade Essay Questions in a Quiz

Applies to: Moodle 3.2

Essay questions in quizzes must be graded manually. If there is more than one essay question in a quiz, you will see a menu or table from which to select a question for evaluation. After scoring essay questions you may need to run a Regrade all from the Results > Grades page to incorporate the new scores. Re-grading a single essay question would involve a manual Update of that question.

There is no easy way to compile and download only the essay question responses in a quiz into a single file. From the Quiz Administration block you can choose Responses from under the Results heading and then download ALL answers to an Excel spreadsheet. In Excel you can remove extraneous columns and reformat the text columns for easier reading.
