Moodle 3.2: Export Student Data from a Database Activity

A database in Moodle allows an instructor and students to build, display and search a bank of record entries about any topic.

The text entries of a database can be exported. Images and files cannot be exported but can be downloaded one at a time.

Exporting database data

  1. Go to the course homepage.
  2. Find the Database and click its link.
  3. Click the Export tab.
  4. Choose the format you wish to export to: CSV or ODS.
    • The default settings of CSV text with selected delimiter: , (comma) are typically best for use with Excel and Google Sheets.
      Choose the file format you wish to export to options with 'CSV text with selected delimiter: comma' selected.
  5. Select the fields you want to export. It is not possible to export Picture or File fields.
  6. Check Include user details to include who submitted each entry.
  7. Check Include time added/modified to include when each entry was made.
  8. Click Export entries. The file will download to your computer.
  9. When you are done, return to your course homepage.
