Moodle 3.2: Copy and Paste from Word and Other Documents

Formatting in Word can cause problems when you copy and paste text into Moodle . The Moodle text editor has the option to paste and simultaneously clean up text copied from Microsoft Word and other text editors.

Pasting Word and other text into Moodle

  1. Select and copy your document text.
  2. Navigate in Moodle to the item where you want to paste text.
    • For most activities or resources:
      1. Go to the course homepage and click Turn editing on.
      2. Click the Edit menu Edit activity menu to the right of the item.
      3. Choose Edit Settings.
    • For Forums, Quickmail, etc, navigate into the item to view the text box.
  3. Click the Paste Special button Paste special button in the appropriate text box. The paste special window opens.
  4. Paste your text into the Content to be pasted box on the left. Your text source type should be automatically selected below.
  5. Check the Paste Preview box on the right to make sure your text is displaying properly.
    • If not, change the source of your text under Select from where the text was formatted: until the Paste Preview looks appropriate.
  6. Click Complete Paste.
  7. Edit and format your text as necessary.
  8. Scroll down and click Save Changes.
  9. Click Turn editing off.
