ImageNow Barcode Scanning issues
Problems with barcode scanning in ImageNow
This article contains information about the issue of barcodes in documents printed from PeopleSoft not being read when scanned into ImageNow. In order to circumvent this issue while a permanent solution is worked out, an alternative PDF reader must be used.
In this example, PeopleSoft must be accessed while in Mozilla Firefox. Internet Explorer and Google Chrome cannot be used due to the Adobe Reader plugin in the former, and NPAPI Java plugins being disabled in the latter.
- Open the Mozilla Firefox web browser
- Click on the "menu" horizontal bars icon in the upper right corner of the browser window.
- Click on "Options"
- Click on the "Advanced" tab on the right side of the Options dialog
- Under the "General" sub-tab, uncheck the option "Use hardware acceleration when available
- Close and restart Firefox
This procedure allows the built-in Firefox PDF viewer to correctly print barcodes. Leaving hardware acceleration enabled will result in the barcode being corrupted and unreadable.
This issue stems from certain image quality settings being locked down when a PDF document is generated from PeopleSoft. When opened and printed using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, the software drops the image quality below the minimum allowable threshold and the document is printed as an image. These settings cannot be changed after the document is generated as it is created as a secure PDF. However, alternative programs such as Foxit reader and Firefox's built-in PDF viewer do not suffer from this problem.
This procedure is the current solution until the PDF quality settings can be changed to suitable levels for printing through Adobe Reader on the PeopleSoft side.
