Drupal Enterprise 7: Using the Flex Slider Module

The Flex Slider module will allow you to have a hero image slide show on a landing page. The following instructions are for websites using the default UMN Drupal Enterprise 7 configuration.

Setting up the Flex Slider

  1. Go to Menu Modules.
  2. Find UMN Slider Text Helper and enable it.
  3. Click Save configuration (at the bottom of the grey menu on the left).
  4. When asked if you want to enable other flex slider modules, choose Continue.
  5. Go to Configuration > Development > Performance.
  6. Select the option to Clear all caches.
  7. Go to Structure > Content types.
  8. Choose the option to Manage fields on the landing page.
  9. Edit the hero image field.
  10. Increase the number of values to the number sliders you want.
  11. Click Save Settings.
  12. Edit the hero image description field.
  13. Increase the number of values to match the value selected for the hero image.
  14. Click Save Settings.
  15. Go to Structure > Panels.
  16. Click the option to edit next to Default site template.
  17. Go to either Groups Default or Site Wide Default depending on whether your site has Organic Groups installed.
  18. Go to Content.
  19. Click the gear on the right next to node:field hero image.
  20. Click Settings.
  21. Change the value in Select a formatter from image to flexslider.
  22. Click Continue.
  23. Click Finish.
  24. Click Update and Save. The flex slider is now set up.

Using the Flex Slider

  1. Go to Content > Add content.
  2. Landing page.
  3. Enter a Title and a Path Slug.
  4. Add two or more hero images.
  5. Add descriptions to match the hero image (i.e. the first description goes with the first hero image...).
  6. Click Save to view the page.


If this doesn't work, repeat steps 15 - 23 for the site wide default if you chose groups default.
