Drupal Enterprise 7: Types of Text Fields in the Content Form

The following instructions are for websites using the default UMN Drupal Enterprise 7 configuration.

Description

There are many different types of fields in a new content form that serve different purposes.

Plain Text fields

These fields do not allow for formatting of text in the content form. These fields are generally formatted by the Content Type layout. Examples are titles, email addresses, phone numbers, etc.

You can resize the text field using the handle in the lower right corner.

Rich Text fields

These fields allow for formatting of text in the content form. These fields will have a WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") toolbar to apply formatting, add lists, add tables, etc.

Auto-Complete text fields

These fields are generally for categorizing content (i.e., using tags or taxonomy) or connecting/linking related content. Auto-complete fields have a circular symbol in the box. When you begin typing, Drupal will search the appropriate areas (tags, other content, etc) and offer matching suggestions. Choose from the list to select the item.
