Drupal Enterprise 7: How To Use Panels To Do Wild Card Redirects

This article describes how to use panels to do wild card redirects.  The following instructions are for websites using the default UMN Drupal Enterprise 7 configuration.

  1. Go to Structure>Panels>Create new...Panel page (or enter this after your domain URL: /admin/structure/pages/add)
  2. Next to Path put in the path you want redirected, using % as a placeholder (you can name this as well, e.g. '%string') and under Variant type select HTTP Response Code
  3. Click Continue
  4. If using a placeholder (i.e. trying to redirect '/old-path/something' to '/new-path/something'), on the Arguments settings page that comes up, just click Change next to the '%string' line, select String and click Finish
  5. Click Continue
  6. In the Panel settings page, under Response code select 301 Redirect, and under Redirect destination enter the correct path, either internal or external with protocol. If using the placeholder as a context to preserve the path, just add '%string' into the path on that page
