Drupal Enterprise 7: Create a Draft for an Already Published Page

The following instructions are for websites using the default UMN Drupal Enterprise 7 configuration.


In your University Drupal site, you may have content that is published, but you would like to be able to update it without removing the published version.
An example: There's a current course that has a page on your site with the course description for the current semester. The professor wishes to change the course description for next semester.
You wouldn't want to create new content, since it's the same course. So you can create a draft version for an already published page.


  1. Find the content
  2. Click the Edit Draft tab
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click the Publishing Options tab
  4. Change the action to DRAFT
  5. Ensure that Create New Revision is checked
  6. Click Save
Change the action to Draft on the publishing options tab.

There will be a new tab -- View Draft -- on the content.
The View tab will show you the currently published version of the content
The View Draft tab will show you the current draft version of the content
The Edit Draft tab will allow you to edit the draft version

The Revisions tab will show you the versions. Note that the Currently Published version is highlighted in Green.

When you are done editing the new version of the content, and you want the new content published, set the action on the Publishing Options tab to Published.
