Canvas: Add Kaltura Course Tools to Canvas

This article is intended for instructors/staff looking to add the Kaltura My Media and/or Media Gallery tabs to their Canvas course menus. These galleries allow students and instructors to work with their Kaltura video content directly in Canvas instead of working through MediaSpace.

In some cases, Canvas courses may not include links to the Kaltura My Media and Media Gallery tabs. Instructors, teachers, and designers can add links to these tools in their Canvas courses.

  1. Open a browser and go to Canvas (canvas.umn.edu). You may need to sign in.
  2. Select the course you need My Media and/or Media Gallery added to.
  3. Select Settings, located at the bottom of the course menu.
  4. Select the Navigation tab, which is found at the top of the page.

  5. Find the My Media or Media Gallery link found at the bottom of the page under the section labeled Drag items here to hide them from students.
  6. Select the bar My Media or Media Gallery and drag it up to the location you would like it to be in the course navigation menu bar.
    • Check to make sure that the My Media or Media Gallery link is no longer included in the list of items hidden from student view.

  7. Select the Save button at the bottom of the page.

The My Media area will be automatically linked to your Kaltura MediaSpace account. You may have to authorize access to your account the first time you access My Media. Everyone who has access to the course will now see links to the Kaltura Media Gallery for that course.
