During migration to Service Gateway a management ID (MID) is assigned to the unit. An MID is simply a unique identifier in Service Gateway, used to associate all voice and data network services to a department/collegiate unit. Each MID is comprised of users with varying levels of rights and responsibilities. User levels within an MID are primary, secondary, or standard users. In addition to the user roles, the primary, secondary, and standard users are assigned user rights.
Allowing shared usage/passwords or departmental Internet IDs is not permitted. Additionally, authorized Service Gateway users should not allow any type of shared usage of guest wireless accounts. OIT personnel should not maintain a user role within an MID; however exceptions are permitted for a 24 hour period during migration and troubleshooting. All appropriate usage policies and charges are the responsibility of the unit.
Each Management ID must have one primary user, who is ultimately responsible for all jacks managed within a unit; this is a significant role. The unit head makes the determination whether to delegate the responsibilities or appoint a designate.
