SAS: How to resolve a failed import of Excel files
If Excel files will not import into SAS, check that the version of SAS matches the version of Excel. SAS and Excel must be either both 32-bit or both 64-bit.
Confirm the SAS version by opening SAS and looking at the log. The first note will begin, "Note: This session is executing on the ..." followed by either "XP_Pro", which indicates that the installation is 32-bit, or "x64_Pro", which indicates 64-bit. Source: http://support.sas.com/kb/32/374.html
Confirm Microsoft Excel, or MS Office, version.
Install matching versions.
The U provides 32- and 64-bit versions of MS Office.
