NGN: Schedule

NGN WiFi Upgrade Schedule

Proposed Core cutover schedule:

The below dates for Core cutover work have been submitted to OIT CAB for review and approval.

NGN Border Cutover

7/22/17 - 7/23/17 (recommended)

The border cutover is the first phase of upgrades for the NGN Core. We will be moving the border complex routing over to the new border complex routers. There is the possibility of downtime for the system campuses and the TC campus during the migration. The whole weekend is reserved for the change. If all goes well, only one day should be necessary. The second day would be a fall back to reattempt if issues were discovered on the first day and had to be backed out.
Backup change dates: 8/5/17 - 8/6/17

NGN Core Cutover

11/25/17 - 11/26/17 (recommended)

The Core router cutover is the largest phase of upgrades for the NGN Core. We will be moving the routing function from the old to new router one at a time. There will be down time per core router as the upgrade takes place. We are planning to minimize the downtime as much as possible. The whole weekend is reserved for the change.
Backup change dates: 12/2/17 - 12/3/17

Q: Can the schedule be adjusted?

The NGN scheduling team will take scheduling requests into consideration if reported. Every effort for schedule adjustments will be made to move forward in the schedule not back.

The NGN change request process is as follows:

  1. Email ngn@umn.edu with your request and an explanation why there is a need to reschedule. Include academic or visitor event details, dates, the buildings of interest, and a primary contact.
  2. The NGN schedule team will review each request and provide a response with scheduling options within 48 hours.
  3. The NGN schedule team will do all in their power to advance cut schedules ahead if the schedule is to be adjusted.
  4. Once agreed by both the requesting department/unit/building and the NGN scheduling team, the schedule will be modified. If agreement is not reached the issue will be escalated to leadership for review.
