Due to a recent change made by Cisco (the providers of WebEx) to the University of Minnesota’s WebEx license, UMN students will no longer be able to setup and host WebEx meetings starting Monday, January 1, 2018. This change, however, does not affect students ability to join WebEx meetings hosted by faculty, instructors or staff at

As an alternative to WebEx, the Office of Information Technology recommends students use Google Meet to host video meetings or calls. Google Meet allows users to meet with up to 25 people, including those outside the University, and offers many of the same features that are available in WebEx such as screen sharing and text chatting within the video call.

Note that Google Meet only works with the Google Chrome browser for both meeting hosts and attendees. If you want to host or join a Google Meet using a smartphone, a mobile app is also available to download.
