Protecting University Data is Everyone’s Responsibility

A Message from the President
October 20, 2016
University of Minnesota President Eric W. Kaler

As a top research university, we are committed to maintaining the trust that the public places in the conduct of our work.

The core of our research, teaching and outreach enterprise is information. It is information we gather, use, and share to better understand and improve knowledge, health, and the human condition. That information is a valuable asset to our mission as Minnesota's only comprehensive research university and the state's only land-grant institution.

The value we place on that information to do our work — and to those whom we serve — ensures that we maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity for private information. It also protects the availability and integrity of public data.

Our work in managing data securely and well is at the core of our data management practices — and it's why all who work with data have access to this online security training program.

Thank you for upholding the highest ethical standards and the best practices in the responsible use of information.
