University Windows computers to receive IE11 update in February
Throughout February, all centrally-supported University Windows computers will receive an automatic update to the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser to its current version IE11.
The update is necessary because, as of February’s normal monthly release, Microsoft no longer will provide technical support or security updates for older versions of Internet Explorer.
We are aware that some University applications may not work with this latest version and we would like to help. As a start, we recommend testing your applications using the Internet Explorer 11 compatibility view or try the applications in another browser, such as Chrome or Firefox. If you encounter any incompatible applications in your unit, please contact Technology Help.
Users also should be aware that version 11 is the only version of IE supported by Windows 10. Microsoft no longer provides support or patches for versions lower than IE11 on Windows 7. In the near future, Windows 10 will become the default operating system for new University Windows computers.
For questions or technical assistance to determine whether the update to IE11 will cause an application to not function properly, please contact Technology Help at email@example.com or (612) 301-4357 (1-HELP on campus). Exceptions may be made if there is a legitimate business reason to not use IE11.
