Web hosting in Google Drive to be discontinued Aug. 31

February 11, 2016
Google Drive web hosting will retire on August 31.

Google recently announced that web hosting in Google Drive for users and developers will be discontinued on Aug. 31.

Because many University users employ Google Drive to host their websites, the University’s Collaboration & Web Content Services wants to help ensure the University community has adequate time to prepare for this change and offers the following guidance.

University Web Hosting Options

Users who employ Google Drive to host websites have until Aug. 31 to determine an alternative website hosting solution.

Users at the University of Minnesota have four options from which to choose:

  1. Drupal Lite

  2. Google Sites

  3. Google Blogger

  4. The University’s web hosting for departments services.

Compare the features and benefits of these options  on the University’s Collaboration and Web Content Services website. Training and self-help guides are also available for many of these services from more information see Training & Usability Services and Lynda.com.
