Training Hub: Course and Section Attributes and How They Affect Discoverability

Today’s email will focus on how you can control the way that courses appear in the Training Hub Course Catalog.

Training Hub Course Catalog

The Course Catalog will become available to training administrators on June 2, and to learners on June 5. The Course Catalog lists all courses that are active and have been set to display in the catalog.

As you saw, the Catalog displays:

  • The course title 
  • The course number 
  • The group that administers the training 
  • The short course description 
  • A link to the longer course details (deep link) page.

Below are the steps you should take in order to control how your course appears to learners:

Set your course to display in the catalog

  1. Navigate to Training Hub (training.umn.edu).
  2. Click Admin Console.
  3. Click Manage Courses.
  4. Click Edit for the appropriate course. The indicator in the upper right will show you whether or not the course is currently set to display in the catalog.

Course Status: Active; Training Hub Catalog: Displayed

  1. To change these settings:
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the form.
  3. Under Course Status, select Active.
  4. Check or uncheck Display this course in the Training Hub Catalog.
  5. Click Save.

Course Details (Deep Link)

You can see the course details page for any of your courses now by following the Deep Link listed on the Edit Course form.

Find the Deep Link for your course

  1. Navigate to Training Hub (training.umn.edu).
  2. Click Admin Console.
  3. Click Manage Courses.
  4. Click Edit for the appropriate course. The Course Deep Link is listed towards the upper right.

Learners will only be able to get to this page if the course status is Active and one of the following is true:

  • You have set the course to display in the catalog.
  • You have shared this link directly with learners via email or by posting it on a website.

The Course Details page shows the short and long descriptions, as well as all of the active sections that are set to display in the catalog.

Set a section to display on the course deep link page

  1. Navigate to Training Hub (training.umn.edu).
  2. Click Admin Console.
  3. Click Manage Courses.
  4. Click Edit for the appropriate course. 
  5. Scroll down to Sections. You will be able to see which sections are currently set to display on the course details page. The sections must be both Active and set to Display in Catalog.

  6. To change these settings:
    1. Click Edit for the appropriate section.
    2. Scroll down to the bottom of the form.
    3. Under Section Status, select Active.
    4. Check or uncheck Display this section in the Training Hub Catalog.
    5. Click Update Course Section.
