“DevOps is culture enabled by tools, which are necessary but not sufficient,” says Kromhout. “I touch on the history of DevOpsDays and the motivations that lead organizations to DevOps, while encouraging them to collaborate, communicate, and iterate towards increasing value for their organizations.”

“Cloudy With a Chance of DevOps,” a presentation by Bridget Kromhout, is scheduled for 3–4 p.m., Wednesday, June 15 in Hubert H. Humphrey 50B. Sponsored by the University’s DevOps informal community of practice steering committee, the presentation is free and open to all interested members of the University community systemwide. Interested attendees are asked to register if planning to attend. The presentation also will be available online via WebEx.

DevOps (development and operations) is a practice that emphasizes the collaboration and communication between enterprise-level software developers and other IT professionals while automating the process of software delivery and infrastructure changes throughout the entire software lifecycle.

Kromhout is a principal technologist for Pivotal Software Cloud Foundry. Formerly an operations engineer, she frequently speaks at technology conferences, helps organize technology meetups in Minneapolis, serves on the program committee for Velocity, and is a global core organizer for DevOpsDays. She podcasts at Arrested DevOps, blogs at bridgetkromhout.com, and is active on Twitter.

The DevOps Steering Committee is a cross-departmental group at the University of Minnesota that exists to champion adoption of new technology, innovative processes, and security best practices as they pertain to the practice of DevOps at the University of Minnesota.
