Data Center Annual Maintenance scheduled for January 2018
Annual maintenance of the University of Minnesota’s primary Data Center is scheduled for January 6 and 7, 2018. The work is targeted to begin on Saturday, January 6 at 6 a.m. and is expected to be completed by noon on Sunday, January 7.
This scheduled maintenance requires a complete shutdown of the main Data Center, and will affect many IT services including the enterprise business systems (PeopleSoft). It is important to note that University email, Google applications, Moodle, and Canvas will be available. A complete list of affected services is available at it.umn.edu/datacenter, and the University's IT Service Status page will provide updates while maintenance is underway.
The shutdown of the primary Data Center is required in order to perform critical maintenance, testing, and repair of facility infrastructure. The scope of work this year includes replacing main facility circuit breakers and other electrical maintenance. Other activities include fire suppression upgrades and testing, server moves, and other items intended to maximize facility utilization.
