News from NGN: Firewall Upgrades June 15-16

NGN What's New Graphic

The next phase of the Next Generation Network (NGN) project is scheduled for June 15 and 16, 2019. At this time, network engineers will be upgrading firewalls system-wide.

The Data Center, Campus Border and core networks (including Duluth) will see a short disruptive upgrade, while Crookston and NTS management networks will be non-disruptive. The Data Center and Campus Border networks will see approximately a 15-20 minute outage during the upgrades because they have more processing cards. Core networks (including Duluth) will see around 10-15 minutes. This is a one-time disruptive upgrade, meaning that future upgrades will follow the non-disruptive upgrade path.

Data Center tenants and Firewall users are encouraged to test their equipment and systems before and after the firewall work to ensure systems are operating as expected. If you or your systems are affected following the Data Center firewall upgrade over June 15 and 16,  please contact Technology Help.

NGN teams are committed to minimizing any disruptions as much as possible and have tested their processes thoroughly, and also have a rollback plan in place if needed. During the change window, please visit U of M Service Status for updates. If you have any questions, please contact the NGN team at [email protected].
