News from NGN: Border Cutover in July

The first phase of upgrades for the Core component of the Next Generation Network (NGN) project is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 23. At this time, border complex routing will be moved over to new border routers. The project team is taking advantage of redundant router architecture to make this transition as smooth, safe, and secure as possible for U of M services.

The work is scheduled for the early morning on Sunday, July 23 and while there is the possibility of small periods of network downtime for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus and system campuses, impact is expected to be low. The work is expected to take only one day. Should the work need to be moved or adjusted, backup dates have been reserved on August 5 and 6, 2017.

The border cutover is the first phase of NGN Core segment work, which will continue throughout 2017 and 2018. During the cutover process, please visit U of M System Status for updates. If you have any questions, please contact the NGN team at [email protected].
