Google AI Pro add-on for Gemini is now available
We are pleased to announce the availability of Google AI Pro add-on licenses for University faculty and staff.
Delivered in response to University community demand, this optional, purchasable add-on marks the initial phase of a broader rollout of advanced tools coordinated by the AI Hub, which is working to address the needs of researchers, faculty, students, and staff across the University.
The Google AI Pro add-on is designed to support those who require more intensive AI capabilities than those provided by the standard tier of Gemini, serving as the first of several upcoming resources aimed at empowering our community across all campuses.
What the Google AI Pro add-on offers
Currently, all UMN faculty, staff, and students have opt-in access to Gemini at no additional cost through the University’s Google Workspace for Education Plus license. In addition to Gemini's standard experience, the Google AI Pro add-on offers:
- Prioritized access: During peak traffic hours, Education Plus users may have their limits throttled or be downgraded, while add-on subscribers keep their full speed.
- Enhanced performance: Faster processing and more sophisticated reasoning for complex projects.
- Seamless integration: Unlike the standard Gemini version that is included with your University of Minnesota account, Google AI Pro offers full integration within your Google Workspace apps, including Gmail, Forms, Meet, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Getting the Google AI Pro add-on
The Google AI Pro add-on license is available for faculty and staff for $228 per user, per year with an annual commitment.
