All Moodle course sites at the University of Minnesota are contained inside a specific instance of Moodle. An instance is a single system and version of Moodle which is created for one academic year (AY).
Example: "Moodle for Academic Year 2016-2017 (Moodle 3.0)", also known as "Moodle AY16 (3.0)". The web address for these course sites begins with ay16.moodle.umn.edu
Older versions of Moodle will have restrictions on access and eventually will be completely closed. For details on this process, see Moodle Lifecycle Process.
Finding out which Moodle instance your course site lives in
Go to the course homepage.
Look in the upper-right corner, just above Turn editing on. In the banner, you should see moodle and a number.
moodle 2 = AY12, ay12.moodle.umn.edu
moodle 2.4 = AY13, ay13.moodle.umn.edu
moodle 2.6 = AY14, ay14.moodle.umn.edu
moodle 2.8 = AY15, ay15.moodle.umn.edu
moodle 3.0 = AY16, ay16.moodle.umn.edu
moodle 3.2 = AY17, ay17.moodle.umn.edu
Note: The URL moodle.umn.edu will take you to the most current version of Moodle changing in August of each year.
