When configuring an assignment, Simple Direct Grading is one of the Grading Method choices. Simple grading is the choice for when the grader is intending to enter a score (points) or a non-numeric scale for the completed task. Simple Direct Grading does not make use of a Moodle grading rubric or grading guide. The instructor would use their own method of determining the assignment score.
The Simple Grading method has three options for grading the activity:
None - A corresponding column will be created in the Gradebook, but there will be no area to enter a score.
Points - You determine the maximum value in the assignment settings. The minimum will always be zero.
Scale - A non-numeric scale will be used for the gradebook score.
The University's Moodle installation has several pre-set scales ready for use.
You can also create your own from within the gradebook.
Note: Scales are text only and Moodle cannot determine their value. Only score grading can be used to calculate points. See Use a Scale for Grading Activities for more information
