Currently there is no limit on the size of a Moodle site. However, bloated courses can cause issues with backing up and restoring and take up unnecessary server space. To minimize the amount space used:
Remove outdated or duplicate files.
Optimize your audio, video and PDF files to reduce their sizes.
Store files in an external repository such as Google Drive, YouTube, or Kaltura.
Delete all zipped files from your course sites, especially course backups (Administration > Files > Backup Data folder).
Sites exceeding 1 GB may have difficulty when copying and restoring the site. If more time is required, we will contact you to discuss your file storage needs and options. In extreme circumstances, we may have to remove excessively large files with little notice.
If you have large files that you want to exchange with your students, please consider using Google Drive or YouTube. You can also use the Kaltura Video Repository and Moodle to allow your students to stream video from your site.
If your site content is accidentally deleted, we may be able to help you to restore it. However, we are limiting such service to the situations when there is absolutely no other option available (e.g. the whole site is deleted, or student data or forum submissions are gone). Contact Moodle Support for more information.
