There are rare occasions when you may need to allow a guest outside of the University to visit your course site. Moodle allows for this type of course access in the Enrollment methods area.
Anonymous access - Read-only, anonymous access allows people to browse through Moodle sites in the role of "non-participating" user. Therefore, they can see everything, including course materials, forum postings, and database entries, but they can not participate, e.g. post an actual forum entry.
Anonymous access key - Provides anonymous login-free access to only those users who know the password key.
Considerations for the enrolled students
Students should be informed if read-only visitors who have the access key are allowed into the site.
If read-only access is allowed, and the access key is removed, then anyone in the world will be able to access the site and browse your course. If this is done, students must be informed of the accessibility status.
Allowing anonymous access
Go to the course homepage.
Find the Administration block and select Edit Settings.
Under the Anonymous Access section, set Allow Anonymous Access to Yes.
Define an Access Key.
Click Save Changes.
Send a direct url link to your course homepage to the anonymous users. They will be able to access the course with read-only access after entering the Access Key.
