Google Apps Overview
Through a partnership with Google, University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff can access a suite of Google-powered communication and collaboration tools designed to enhance our ability to work together.
The core suite of applications is covered by the Google Apps for Education Customer Agreement that protects the privacy of information placed in these applications. The University also has extended options for supporting these applications and for contacting Google for additional support on your behalf.
All University users have access to the following core Google Apps:
Gmail: Keep your University of Minnesota email address, but use Google’s advanced email interface – without ads. Comes with a powerful spam filter.
Google Calendar: Organize your life—schedule your work, social and academic life, create personal calendars, share calendars with others, and invite people to events.
Google Drive: Create and share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, and collaborate with others on group projects.
Google Groups: Connect with people, access information, and communicate effectively over email and on the web. With members of your team all in the same group, Google Groups makes it easy for sharing things like Google Calendars and Docs with one another.
Google Sites: Create websites and secure group wikis.
Most University users also have access to other Google Apps, including Analytics, Inbox, Photos, and Scripts. Users in the Academic Health Center or Health Care Component are subject to certain controls when using Google Groups, and require an exception to use Google Analytics, Google Hangouts, and YouTube. Refer to Google Apps for AHC and HCC Accounts for details.
Consumer Apps Availability and Support
The University provides support for the Google Apps for Education Core Suite listed above. Google consumer (non-core) applications are not covered by the Google Apps for Education Customer Agreement, and are subject to the product's specific terms of service.
