Based on some research I’ve conducted out of my home, we’ll examine some of the new challenges presented to the field of user experience by emerging experiences such as VR/AR/XR. Current UX methods are built to explore 2D interfaces, not the interspatial relationships/systems presented in mixed reality technology. Drawing from intersecting fields such as theatre/performance art and physical education, we can begin to examine our role as designers/researchers in the emerging experience. We’ll sink into some real-world examinations of creating & administering reality: consent of touch for facilitators, consent to reality/fantasy/play, our role as a point of contact between humanity and the tech.
