Connect to a College of Design Active Directory Share (Using a Mac)
This article will help Mac users complete the following:
Connect and access CDes content on UMN Enterprise File Storage
Refer to VPN configuration instructions for connecting from off-site
On the top menu bar, select "Go" and then select "Connect to Server..."
In the "Server Address:" field, enter in the following: smb://files.umn.edu/CDes
Click on the "+" icon to the right of the "Server Address:" field to add that new server to the list of "Favorite Servers:" below.
Select the newly added server smb://files.umn.edu/CDes from the list, then click the "Connect" button in the lower-right corner of the window.
Note: You may now use steps 1-4 to connect to smb://files.umn.edu/CDes at any time, however, the following steps will provide additional instructions to create a more convenient dock shortcut to access CDes file shares.
Enter your username and password as below, make sure to put AD\ in front of your username.
In the new CDes file share window, click and drag the "CDes" volume from the window down to the right side of your dock (to the right of the dotted line, near the trash can) to create a dock shortcut.
Note: You may wish to change the appearance of the "CDes" file share icon by right-clicking it and selecting "Display as -> Folder" instead of "Stack".
CDes faculty and staff who wish to connect to UMN Enterprise File Storage from off-campus locations will need to download, install, and configure the University of Minnesota's VPN client.
The VPN software download and instructions for Mac OS X users can be found on OIT's webpage here.
