Understand the basics about the service
The College of Design provides Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) for faculty and staff use for printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. These devices (Canon) are typically capable of both color and black and white impressions on paper up to tabloid (11x17) in size. Drivers installed by CDes IT staff are needed to access all the features, and PIN numbers are needed for authentication to print on any of these devices. The appropriate code can be obtained from CDes IT staff or from the department head. You can also request that a code be added to the device by contacting the Technology Helpline.
If there is a hardware problem with an MFD, they are covered by maintenance agreements. A telephone number (Loffler: 952-925-6868) is prominently displayed on the front of the MFD. A supply of paper as well as toner and waste cartridges is also usually available. Ask someone in the department where to find these supplies.
Some departments have networked black and white and color laser printers (usually HP) as well. These printers are typically limited to a workgroup and require drivers and configuration to access. CDes IT will install appropriate drivers on request with the department head's approval.
