Moving from Moodle towards the adoption of Canvas

Canvas, hosted through Instructure, is an online cloud-based learning platform. It is available through the University’s membership with Unizin and has been favorably received and adopted by many peer institutions in higher education. Canvas offers a number of features and enhanced capabilities, including:

  • More streamlined grading using the Canvas SpeedGrader app
  • Responsive/mobile-friendly design
  • Modern and accessible interface design allows drag-and-drop functionality to easily create and adjust content/activities
  • Opportunities for collaboration with our peer institutions
  • Share content/activities with the University community and beyond
  • Provide contextual feedback to students through a variety of media including text, video, and audio
  • Student context card allows faculty to see student activity in a course at a glance
  • What-if grade view allows students to see how future effort in the course could affect their grade
  • Support of Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). LTI allows users to customize the system to specific college, unit, or individual needs
  • Native Google Apps integration
  • Support of collaboration and student-generated content
  • Tools that empower faculty to utilize mastery-based learning techniques
