Improve the University’s ability to make data-driven decisions by researching common business needs, sharing best practices, and creating enterprise service recommendations around data integration and end-user analytics.

Criteria for Success

  • Identify and deliver a list of common use cases

    • Work across units to identify and describe common needs

    • Classify needs into data integration and end-user analytic use-cases

  • Develop enterprise service recommendations for the identified use cases

    • Perform a gap analysis of IT@UMN’s current state to the identified use-cases

    • Identify the capabilities needed to fulfill the identified use-cases

  • Draft a reporting and data request framework

    • Evaluate UMN’s reporting and data landscape

    • Develop a request methodology for data and reporting needs

  • Solicit technology input for the enterprise technology roadmap

    • Gather an inventory of reporting and data technologies in use within IT@UMN

In-scope

  • Evaluating data practices across IT@UMN

  • Establishing best practices and guiding principles for IT@UMN to directly support the needs of Enterprise Data Management and Reporting (EDMR)

  • Recommending enterprise service changes, best practices, and request frameworks to EDMR for enabling shared data and end-user analytics

Out-of-scope

  • Creating data management policies

  • Drafting detailed SLAs and creating implementation plans for enterprise services

  • Selecting technologies to fulfill use-cases
