Programs for undergraduate women

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) sponsors many activities during the year for its members, including monthly meetings, mentoring activities, social events, newsletter, and outreach programs to grade school and high school students. Technically Speaking is an annual one-day event in which high school women visit and tour IT, and meet with students, women faculty, and IT prospective and advisory staff.

Alpha Sigma Kappa (Women in Technical Studies) is a social sorority for women studying engineering, math, the sciences, architecture, and other technical subjects. The sorority sponsors social, scholastic, and philanthropic activities. For more information email ask@umn.edu or call 612-378-4759.

WISE House is a living-learning environment for women interested in the sciences and/or engineering. The program has 20 spaces in Comstock Hall reserved for female freshmen and Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEO) students who have similar academic and career goals. Residents receive support from peers, graduate students, faculty, and professionals that enhances their academic success and their social lives. A community advisor works with WISE faculty and staff to provide social activities such as lab tours, dinners with faculty, and study groups. WISE and the Office for University Women sponsor the program.
