Financing your education

Office of Student Finance

The Office of Student Finance (OSF) administers all financial aid programs at the University. Financial aid counselors are available to help you by email, phone, or in person.

Scholarships and financial aid

To be considered for all forms of need-based aid, new and returning students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Merit-based scholarships

  • Freshman scholarships
These scholarships may be campus-wide or college-specific. You are considered for most University of Minnesota academic scholarships when you apply for admission. By submitting your application for admission you are also applying for a freshman scholarship; no additional form is necessary. Priority consideration is given to students who submit the admission application by priority application deadline.
  • Freshman honors scholarships
IT awards Freshman Undergraduate Assistant Scholarships of at least $2,500. When you apply for admission to the honors program, you are automatically applying for this award.
  • Department scholarships
All other IT undergraduates, including transfer students, should contact their major department and the Office of Student Services for information about scholarships (612-624-8504). Use the IT Undergraduate Merit Scholarship Application (pdf) or the IT Undergraduate Transfer Student Merit Scholarship Application (pdf).
