Core Apps

The core suite of applications is covered by the Google Apps for Education Customer Agreement that protects the privacy of information placed in these applications. The University also has extended options for supporting these applications and for contacting Google for additional on behalf of end users.

All University users have access to the following core Google Apps:

PLEASE NOTE: The core apps listed below are NOT available for Academic Health Center or Health Care Component University email accounts.

Request an Exception

If you are part of the University’s healthcare component and believe you have a business need to access Google Sites/YouTube/Hangouts (the “Additional Google Applications”), please review and complete the AHC Google Apps Exception Request Form. Please keep in mind that access to the Additional Google Applications will not be permitted in the event your need would result in transferring, creating, maintaining, storing or otherwise making accessible any Protected Health Information (“PHI”). Also, please keep in mind that an exception for Youtube is only needed for those who need to post or edit content on Youtube.

Once the AHC Google Apps Exception Request Form is completed, it will be reviewed by the Privacy Office, AHC-IS. You may be contacted for additional information.

Gmail

Keep your University of Minnesota email address, but use Google’s advanced email interface – without ads. Comes with a powerful spam filter.

Google Calendar

Organize your life—schedule your social and academic life, create personal calendars, share calendars with others, and invite friends to events.

Google Drive

Allows access to your online storage from anywhere. Work in real time, as you can create and share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, and collaborate with others on group projects. Assign them comments and receive comment notifications. The powerful search tools allow you to filter your Drive content.

Google Sites

Create Web sites and secure group wikis.

Google Talk

Collaborate and chat in real-time with friends, classmates, or colleagues, anywhere in the world.

Google Groups

Google Groups is all about helping users connect with people, access information, and communicate effectively over email and on the web. With members of your team all in the same group, Google Groups makes it easy for sharing things like Google Calendars and Docs with one another.

Consumer Apps Availability and Support

The University provides support for the Google Apps for Education Core Suite of Apps, which includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive/Docs, Talk, Sites and Groups. Google consumer (non-core) applications are not covered by the Google Apps for Education Customer Agreement, and are subject to the product's specific terms of service.
