Hosting Services

The Hosting services provides professionally-managed servers (virtual and physical) and database environments for University academic and administrative units. The servers and databases are maintained and managed by Office of Information Technology (OIT) database and systems administrators. This includes maintaining and managing the infrastructure, operating system, storage, backups, security, and patching.

    Database Hosting

    The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides a comprehensive, common good database hosting service to OIT Administrative Computing Services teams for enterprise applications and to University departments for departmental applications. OIT database and systems administrators manage the infrastructure, hardware, software, operating system environment, backups, and security.

    Monitoring

    Customers of our Server Hosting services can use our Monitoring service to collect data corresponding to target status or conditions for applications managed on OIT systems. This capability is achieved via several available mechanisms including agentless, active agent, and passive agent.

    Self-Managed Environment

    Self-Managed Virtual Server Hosting provides infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS) to University departments and business units and are created by provisioning managers within the University departments. University departments manage the network security, operating system, applications, backups, security, etc. University departments also provide tier I- and II-level support to the end users of the service. OIT system administrators manage the virtual environment and the underlying physical infrastructure.

    Virtual Server Hosting provides virtual servers to University departments and business units. The virtual servers are maintained and managed by Office of Information Technology (OIT) systems administrators. This includes maintaining and managing the infrastructure, operating system, storage, backups, security, and patching.

    Web Hosting for Departments

    The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides a comprehensive, common good Web hosting service for University units that enables them to post their own content online. Content is securely managed via separate servers by Web developers from each local unit. Performance and Web traffic is monitored carefully and continually by OIT staff to maintain high levels of quality and performance.
