Use WebDAV for Windows

By creating a WebDAV share in Windows you can:

Create a Web Folder in Windows XP

  1. In Windows XP, click on "Start" and then click on "My Network Places."
  2. Under Network Tasks, click Add Network Place.
  3. At the "Where do you want to create this Network Place?" prompt, choose "Choose Another Network Location" and click on "Next."
  4. In the Add Network Place Wizard, follow the instructions to add a shortcut to a directory.
  5. The address of that directory will be https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/{InternetID}.
  6. When prompted for a user name and password, type in your user name and password. Click "OK."
  7. Next, name your Network Place and select "Next." When you have successfully added the shortcut, select "Finish." An icon for your new shortcut will appear in the My Network Places directory. You can drag files to and from this folder and open files as you would for any other drive.

Create a WebDAV Share in Windows Vista

Note: in order to use this feature you need to be running Windows Vista SP2 or later.

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Right click on Computer and select "Map Network Drive..."
  3. For the folder enter https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/{InternetID}.
  4. Click Finish.
  5. When prompted, enter your Internet ID and password.
  6. A network drive will appear in the Computer folder. You can drag files to and from this folder and open files as you would for any other drive.

Create a WebDAV Share in Windows 7

  1. Right-click Computer and select Map Network Drive.
  2. Click "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures."
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click "Choose a custom network location" and Next.
  5. Enter https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/{InternetID} and click Next.
  6. A Windows Security windows will appear. Log in using your Internet ID and password.
  7. Enter a name for this network location (whatever you want it to be) then click Next.
  8. Click Finish and your Netfiles space will appear in computer listing.
