High school preparation requirements for IT
English
Four years, with emphasis on writing, including instruction in
reading and speaking skills and in literary understanding and
appreciation
If you are not a native speaker of English and if you have ACT
English and/or reading scores of 17 or lower (or SAT verbal score
of 420 or lower), you may be asked to submit scores from the Michigan
English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or Test of English
as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Math
Four years, including one year each of elementary algebra, geometry
of two and three dimensions, intermediate algebra, and trigonometry
Science
Three years, including one year each of biological sciences,
chemistry, and physics
Social studies
Three years, including one year each of U.S. history and geography
(or a combination of courses incorporating geographic studies,
e.g., world history, western civilization, Latin American studies,
etc.)
Applicants who are missing one year of geography will not be
denied admission if they are otherwise admissible.
Second language
Two years of a single second language
Arts
One year in the visual or performing arts, including instruction
in the history and interpretation of the art form (e.g., theater
arts, music, band, chorus, orchestra, visual arts, photography,
graphic design, etc.)
Applicants who are missing this requirement will not be denied
admission if they are otherwise admissible.
If you graduated from high school before 1987, you are not required
to meet the University's course requirements.
