Advanced placement credit
With careful planning, you can get a head start on college course
work while you're still in high school.
AP and IB Courses
Many entering students have taken high school classes that qualify
for college credit. The University awards advanced placement (AP)
and international baccalaureate (IB) credit in many technical and
liberal arts areas. Depending on AP or IB exam scores, these credits
may fulfill some University of Minnesota degree requirements, including
liberal education requirements and IT course requirements.
Post-Secondary Enrollment Options
Other entering students have received college credit through Minnesota's
Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program, in which high
school juniors and seniors admitted to the program register concurrently
for high school and college courses.
IT Center for Educational Programs (ITCEP)
ITCEP offers precollege programs in mathematics and related science
and engineering applications. Among these programs are an academic-year
calculus component and summer programs that award college credit.
Summer Session
The College of Continuing Education offers summer programs for
high school students through University of Minnesota Summer Session.
Students make take Summer Session courses for credit; however, the
PSEO program does not cover the cost of these course.
NOTE: If you enter IT with advanced placement in mathematics or
another subject, you will enroll in the appropriate level of that
subject. However, because many courses are designed as integrated
sequences, it may not be possible to enroll in certain courses without
taking the entire sequence. Contact the Office
of Admissions for more information. |
