To transition the University’s infrastructure to standard platforms and thus reduce acquisition and support costs, the University of Minnesota offers standard server configurations through strategic sourcing arrangements with Dell and IBM.

Standard Models Available for Purchase
If you plan to have OIT manage your server via the Tenant Server Hosting service, you must have one of the standard models listed above and ensure it meets the minimum specifications below.
- Dell x86 Rack-Mount Servers available through Departmental Computer & Device Purchases
- IBM Blade Centers
Server Minimum Requirements
- 19-inch rack-mountable (no towers or workstations)
- 220V power cords Dell Part#: A0578532/Manufacturer Part# CBL0020
- 2 power supplies
- Rack mount kit with sliding rails
- Remote management card (Dell = iDRAC Enterprise, etc.)
- Vendor maintenance contract for the planned life of the server (3-5 years)
