Bernard Gulachek

Interim Vice President and Chief Infomation Officer

Bernard Gulachek is the interim vice president and chief information officer (VPCIO) for the University of Minnesota. He leads IT and plans for its long-term future at the University.

Bernard has served the University of Minnesota since 1986 in a variety of operational and strategic technology leadership roles. He is credited with leading many of the information technology services in use at the University today and for working effectively across this large enterprise to achieve both individual and institutional goals through the use of technologies.

Chris Ament

Senior Director, Academic Technology & User Support

As the senior director for academic technology and user support, Chris leads a team that supports the use of technology to enhance the teaching, research, and outreach mission of the university.

Chris started his career at the university in 1998 as a student employee working on the technology help desk. Since then, Chris has held a variety of technical and leadership roles in application development, systems administration, and enterprise project management. His passion for technology and improving the education experience at the university led him to his current role.

Chris holds a bachelors degree in computer science (2000) and a masters degree in business administration (2013).

Thomas (Tom) Auld

Associate Chief Information Officer

As associate CIO, Tom works to ensure that technologies and IT services are aligned with University needs through the IT governance process. He provides strategic direction and major initiative oversight to continue to evolve the solutions provided by IT which will make students, faculty and staff more successful.

Over his 20+ year career, Tom has envisioned and delivered business & technology solutions for global organizations such as Target Corporation, Medtronic, Best Buy, Boston Scientific, and General Mills. Tom has deep experience with all levels of business and technical initiatives while he specializes in Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Digital Solutions (mobile & web) and Business Process Engineering.

Kemal Badur, Infrastructure & Production

As senior director for infrastructure and production, Kemal provides strategic direction for the University's infrastructure, including networking, server and storage administration, datacenter operations, and databases.

Kemal has held various roles at the University of Minnesota since 1998, including teaching, research, IT infrastructure and technology enhanced learning. Prior to his career at the University, he worked as an analyst and researcher at several financial institutions in Turkey. He holds a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Minnesota.

Brian Dahlin

Chief Information Security Officer

As the chief information security officer, Brian and his team work to both document new security standards for UMN and develop a risk-based framework by which the University can more efficiently operate in the changing world of information security.

Brian spent 15 years at Cerner: a healthcare information technology company. His experience in information security, regulatory security requirements, and security framework implementation is utilized to advance our information security program.

Associate Chief Information Officer

As associate CIO, Brittany works to ensure that technologies and IT services are aligned with University needs through the IT governance process.

Brittany has worked at the University for over 10 years, beginning with the Office of the VP for Research, and then moving to IT. Brittany has extensive experience with the University's enterprise systems, and served as a relationship manager for many of IT's customers.

Before coming to the University, Brittany was a consultant with a Big 5 consulting firm, working with large research institutions across the country.

Sharon Ramallo

Senior Director, Application Development

As the director for application development, Sharon Ramallo leads the University's central application development and maintenance teams.

Sharon has worked at the University for 10+ years, most recently serving as the associate CIO for enterprise systems. During her time at UMN, she has held many roles within the App Dev function, including quality assurance, software development lifecycle (SDLC) process, change management, ERP support for finance and HRMS, and more.

Diane Wollner

Diane Wollner

Senior Director, Business Office

Diane is the senior director of the Central IT Business Office and is responsible for finance and administration, budgeting, reporting and analysis, payroll and human resources.

Diane has experience in the private sector having worked at one of the Big Four Audit firms (Deloitte) and a Fortune 500 Company (Ecolab, Inc) before coming to to the University in 1994. She a BS in business, major in accounting and an MBA, with an IT concentration.
