Scott Studham

Scott Studham

Scott Studham is the vice president and chief information officer (VPCIO) for the University of Minnesota. He leads IT and plans for its long-term future at the University.

Studham has been the CIO at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He also served as chief technology officer for the National Center for Computational Sciences which is host to the world's fastest computer.

Studham has a bachelor's degree in chemistry, a master's degree in computer science, and a master's degree in business administration (MBA).

Six times in his career, Studham has been the program manager or architect for one of the world's top ten supercomputers. He won the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Supercomputing Conference StorCloud Challenge award for the most innovative use of storage in 2004 and in 2003 was named the Computerworld Honors Laureate, the Smithsonian Institute's award for innovative technologies.

As chief of staff, Chris serves as a strategic adviser to the VPCIO. He is responsible for managing emerging issues and ensuring the efficient flow of information throughout OIT and among University executives.

Prior to joining the University, Chris was a foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State for nine years, with overseas tours in Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem. He graduated from Whitman College with a BA in sociology.

As the senior director for both academic technology and end user support, Chris oversees two teams of IT professionals: those who leverage technology to enhance teaching, learning, and research at the University and those who provide direct support for the UMN community through the service desk, desktop support, application support, communications, training, usability, video, and request fulfillment.

Chris started his career at the University of Minnesota in 1998 as a software developer and has worked in a variety of roles since then including business analysis, systems administration and project management. His passion for technology and improving the education experience at the University drew him to his current role in academic technology.

Chris holds a bachelors degree in computer science and a masters degree in business administration (MBA).

As associate CIO, Tom works to ensure that technologies and IT services are aligned with University needs through the IT governance process. He provides strategic direction and major initiative oversight to continue to evolve the solutions provided by IT which will make students, faculty and staff more successful.

Over his 20+ year career, Tom has envisioned and delivered business & technology solutions for global organizations such as Target Corporation, Medtronic, Best Buy, Boston Scientific, and General Mills. Tom has deep experience with all levels of business and technical initiatives while he specializes in Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Digital Solutions (mobile & web) and Business Process Engineering.

Kemal Badur

As senior manager for custom application development, Kemal is responsible for a portfolio of enterprise applications for a number of different services. He also provides strategic oversight for the update of our identity management system.

Kemal has held various roles at the University of Minnesota since 1998, including teaching, research, IT infrastructure and technology enhanced learning. Prior to his career at the University, he worked as an analyst and researcher at several financial institutions in Turkey. He holds a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Minnesota.

As application architect, Aaron is responsible for the enterprise application portfolio and strategy as part of the enterprise architecture program.

Aaron came to the University from the private sector where he focused on software development and, since then, has served IT@UMN in both collegiate and non-collegiate roles. Aaron has his bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and a master's in Management of Technology.

As the chief information security officer, Brian and his team work to both document new security standards for UMN and develop a risk-based framework by which the University can more efficiently operate in the changing world of information security.

Brian spent 15 years at Cerner: a healthcare information technology company. His experience in information security, regulatory security requirements, and security framework implementation is utilized to advance our information security program.

As director of Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS), Jason oversees all administrative and operational activities of information technology at University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). He has worked closely on the development of a five-year IT strategic plan and now leads an effort to develop and implement a comprehensive catalog of IT services across all five campuses.

Jason joined ITSS in 1996 and, since then, has served many roles, including management of academic and classroom technology. He has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in Liberal Studies, both from the University of Minnesota. He also holds a doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration.

Dual reporting as IT director for the College of Law and as an associate CIO, Denny Depp came to the University from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he has served as a senior IT researcher and more recently as the enterprise architect. Denny holds a BA in mathematics and computer science, and an MS in mathematics.

As the chief technology officer and enterprise architect for the University, Patton is responsible for creating, communicating, and enforcing an enterprise architecture strategy for the University of Minnesota system.

Patton has been associated with the University for 20 years and worked in IT@UMN for 10+ years. He has his PhD in chemistry and master's in business administration.

Bernard has been at the University since 1986, serving in operational and strategic technology leadership roles and as an adjunct technology professor at St. Catherine University.

Sarah provides direct strategic, communication and executive coordination for the Vice President & CIO. She works in step with the leadership team to ensure professional, efficient delivery of IT services at the University.

Sarah has a BA in communications from the University of Maryland. She largely focused her efforts on public relations in the nonprofit sector prior to coming to the University of Minnesota in 2014.

As director of communications and strategic initiatives, Earl leads the unit's internal/external communication, change leadership, capital planning and management, and other functions supporting the academic and administrative technologies serving the University system.

Prior to joining the University, Earl was vice president and head of communications for Thrivent Financial, a FORTUNE 500 provider of financial services. He holds a BA in journalism and mass communication from the University of Iowa and an MA in journalism and mass communication from the University of Minnesota.

As associate CIO, Brittany works to ensure that technologies and IT services are aligned with University needs through the IT governance process.

Brittany has worked at the University for over 10 years, beginning with the Office of the VP for Research, and then moving to IT. Brittany has extensive experience with the University's enterprise systems, and served as a relationship manager for many of IT's customers.

Before coming to the University, Brittany was a consultant with a Big 5 consulting firm, working with large research institutions across the country.

As human resources manager, Kendric formulates effective and progressive human resources strategies aligned with IT's mission, culture, values, and priorities while ensuring plans are developed, aligned, and integrated for success.

Kendric has a Master of Education in Human Resource Development from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Winona State University. Prior to joining the University, he worked in human resources for one of Minnesota's largest public school districts as well as a global manufacturer of innovative solutions for thermal, solar and carbon fiber markets.

Heather has worked in various roles across the University over the past 9 years and has gained extensive institutional knowledge and built strong relationships through her experiences in both central and collegiate units prior to joining OIT. Heather has a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and a Master's in Organizational Development with a focus on Higher Education.

As the director for application development, Sharon Ramallo leads the University's central application development and maintenance teams.

Sharon has worked at the University for 10+ years, most recently serving as the associate CIO for enterprise systems. During her time at UMN, she has held many roles within the App Dev function, including quality assurance, software development lifecycle (SDLC) process, change management, ERP support for finance and HRMS, and more.

Colby has served a variety of roles for AHC-IS over the last 15+ years. He holds a bachelor's degree in applied business and an master's degree in management of technology, both from the University of Minnesota.

As the service director for IT Service Coordination, Larry focuses on improving the quality of IT services by collecting the perspectives of people who use them.

Larry previously worked in the College of Science and Engineering supporting research, teaching, and administrative support. He holds a Master's in English Literature from George Mason University and a Master's in Management of Technology (MOT) from the University of Minnesota.

Diane is the senior director of the Central IT Business Office and is responsible for finance and administration, budgeting, reporting and analysis, payroll and human resources.

Diane has experience in the private sector having worked at one of the Big Four Audit firms (Deloitte) and a Fortune 500 Company (Ecolab, Inc) before coming to to the University in 1994. She a BS in business, major in accounting and an MBA, with an IT concentration.
